I've had my casings welded many times... once the pitting was sooo bad water leaked through the transom. They welded a ton of aluminum back and ground it flat.

Do you happen to know why they cracked in the first place? Or how deep the crack goes?

If their that bad than their probably going through the threaded area where the carrier retainer screws in. If that retainer comes out you could end up loosing your prop, propshaft, carrier, and drive gear. That's over a thousand bucks in parts. The cracks only going to get worst. I think I would start looking for replacements.

I welded mine up and ran them for a year. I just kept a real good eye on them after they got welded. You need a REAL good welder to do this because they have to know how to mix the gas for the corrosion that is in the alluminum. I did not grind mine as I wanted to keep as much strenght as possible. It took two tries but they did get it to hold.
