No good news yet.....we changed the cam/fork and she still hesitates.....I ran it this weekend and would just rev it a little bit. Gonna pull the drive tomorrow and check the cable.....if it's not that then going in to the drive for the clutch......I'll keep you guys posted......

Ok guys........the good news is the drive was fixed and I had a great trip to Fire Island last weekend........the bad news is Vinny and I had no time in our schedule to go to the marina, pull the drive, take it home, open it up, put it back together then go back to the marina to install and test......this left me with my only option of letting my Marina do the repair with my spare parts. Now I have no problem with their work......they have always fixed everything I needed with no problem......the problem is that the parts they took out look fine.......including the cone clutch......springs, gears, and misc parts.......all good....... No one seems to have any answers yet as to what the problem was, but it is fixed. I will try to speak to the Mechanic/Tech who did the job this week......maby Vinny will chime in about the condition of the parts after his closer inspection..........

Hey johnny, ive been reading and waiting for the reports. I have posted a few things that ive been going through and they sound the same. I recently pulled my bravo and went threw it with a boat mechanic. We found nothing also! He said put it back together its good, i said no way! It was slow going into gear and started vibrating i knew something was wrong. Took his advice of 45 years in the business and bit my tongue. I took the prop in OK, took the coupler out OK new shift cable OK new shift fork OK. the only thing changed was the oil from penszoil to merc 90 wt high per (green) all is good and im crossing my fingers? good luck with yours. the only thing i noticed is a little chattering in neutral when its idleling. IM checking on it right now to see if we have the shifter cables maybe out a little bit. good luck i hate these problems dan

You guys cant imagine how sick I feel about this. #1 I didnt have the time to help out a good friend. #2 Having someone else go into one of my drives.
I have all the parts in my garage. I inspected everything closely and see nothing wrong. The cone clutch is worn some what. In my opinion, no more worn than any other cone I have seen. Lets put it this way.... Before the drive was torn down, it shifted fine in forward but delayed reverse. After a close inspection of the cone clutch, I cant tell which side was set up for reverse or forward, Both sides look equally worn. There are some minor scrapes in both driven gears, but nothing big. If I were tearing this drive down for a yearly inspection, I may have suggested replacing the cone clutch, just because it was in my hand. But, I dont see how there could have been a shifting problem caused by the parts I have seen. |
