upgrade or replace B1?
 

Currently I have a 496 MAG, B1 1.50 and will be installing the Raylar/Dana kit. With all of the threads posted here, I'm pretty confident that the stock B1 won't take the extra power. At least not for very long.

Can I upgrade the stock B1 or should I be looking at another drive to replace it with. Just keep in mind that I just want to go a little faster than I could from the factory (maybe 70-75 tops) and will not be racing this boat offshore.

Advice?

you doing the full raylar cam heads kit?
If you deciede to stay with the bravo, I have 2 with 1.36 gear ratios you purchase cheap to have as backups and its rumored the 1.36's do a lil better with the extra power.

hi i wouldnt mind a coulple of spare drives as backup ,have 28ft pantera with twin 496 ho 2001 with B1 1.50 one off the drives got stuck in forward as i was driveing on to trailer not to many guys no how to fix them here in England and i am now out of action wot would the main isue be going from 1,50 to 1.36 ??? new the the bravo set up regards paul

No issues would just need a different sized prop. ie if your running a 30P now with the 1.5 you would need a smaller pitch such as a 27p with the 1.36

What power level will you be at when the mods are complete?
I think a properly setup B1 would handle it, versus an XR with gears that wear out and break.
What year is your B1?

ultimately it will be in the 525-560 hp range. it's a 2002. What is needed for a proper set up? This is all new to me currently.

Your B1 has the thick floored gears, that is a good thing. A steel tower in the upper case and a good top cap and proper setup..
