side by side #6 drive height???

what drive heights have yall seen in a side by side #6 set up. Prop shaft location to the running surface???????

Depends on the hull/weight/hp. Stepped or non-step? Notched transom etc.??? What is your application?

302Sport 09-27-2010 03:34 PM

non stepped, no notch.......

How much does the boat weigh?

302Sport 09-29-2010 07:12 AM

around 5400-6400lbs.....

u r thinking of putting 6's on the 33? it already has 4's what real benefit are you going to see? You don't think it might be too stern heavy then?
Good luck with the project.

302Sport 09-29-2010 02:33 PM

not putting 6's on, i want to see what a straight v bottom with side by side 6's runs for a drive height. 4's are surfacing drives and can go just as high as a 6.

are your 4,s on boxes? A #4 on stellings boxes come out to the same dimension as a #6 length and height. the stellings are a little longer than the merc boxes.

302Sport 10-05-2010 01:39 PM

yeah they are on merc boxes.........

Hard to say without a notched transom..........guessing 1.5 to 1.75 inches below hull. That is if the bow is light, go approx 1 inch deeper if you need bow lift.

With a notched transom on a 11,000+ # V hull, .125 inches below the hull works just fine for top end. Also, I think the No. 6 trims in much further than the No. 4 for planing, so no problems with high drive heights.

I can use a straight edge and get an exact measurement for you this weekend, but I think that mine are within a half inch of being even with the running surface at neutral trim. 1988 Cig Top Gun with a notched transom. No issues whatsoever getting on plane :)

but your sixes with a notched transom are way further back from the running surface than my 4's on boxes without a notch :drink:

Craig:
Where are your drives at? I'm curious as I raised mine a few years ago to nearly even, but may lower back down one inch for more bow lift at cruising speed. Also, are those water pickups under the hull?

Finally got down to the boat with a straightedge the other night. My drives are 1" above the hull.

Those are water pickups under the hull.

That is an aggressive "x" for a flat bottom Cigarette. These are just pleasure boats........right? :drink:
