How do I replace all the studs? Are they threaded or pressed in and where do I buy them? I need new studs for gimble assemblys and helmuts they seem to be corroded pretty bad. And what about rebuilding the trim cylinders is it easy to do or are special tools involved?

Are you talking about Bravo or SSM stuff? I can tell you first hand about redoing SSM gimbals and Trim cylinders. They really are pretty easy, and don't take much in the way of tools. A good strap wrench will turn the heads on the trim rams.

You can order the studs from Bam. I found that what was in mine weren't stainless steel (transom side). A couple had a bit of corrosion. I'm not sure if they are supposed to be stainless or not, but I ended up replacing them with a high-strength ultra blue-coated B7 grade stud that is undoubtedly stronger than anything they would have spec'd.

I had a time of removing a couple of the studs from the transom housings. Plenty of penetrating oil, some heat, and double-nutting them with the impact gun got most of them fine. I think one broke off pretty near the surface, but I got it out somhow with a vise-grip, and don't remember drilling it.

Studs are screwed in. You will need to remove them with a pipe wrench. Here's a place you can get them from a little cheaper than a dealer though they are mercury parts.http://www.perfprotech.com/store/cat...nder,3172.aspx

As far as the trim cylinders once you figure out how to do one it's pretty easy. Never needed any special tools to do the ones I have rebuilt.
