Merc's 1350 set complete with the M8 drives. Personally I've seen #6 units spec'd on applications in upwards of 1600+ HP and still hold together. So I'd imagine the M8's could handle that much more without issue, though everything has its limits.

It's interesting that the NXT puts the lower drive gear behind the propshaft carrier instead of in the front of the case like most Merc drives. This was the weak link for the right-hand rotation TRS drive. I wonder if we start seeing NXT failures due to the drive gear pushing away from the pinion, just like the TRS had????

Hi Cam,
Thanks for the cutaways. I am flying out to the west coast this Friday to buy a new boat with 2-700sc and NXT drives. My plans are to add horsepower after the warranty runs out and I was wondering if the NXT's could take 1000hp per drive or would I have to change to #6's, change the transmissions and move the engines forward. The reason I am moving up is to get away from the Bravo issue's I have with my current boat. Do you feel the NXT's are good, sturdy drives?

The bottom line is, the NXT's are just not designed for those power levels and yes you could "get away with it" for a time but its too much risk to even bother. Go with the #6 units and boat with piece of mind that you can hammer the throttle all day without worry.
Dont let this be you!

I know this is a revolutionary engine, however this and the new 502 don't look very pretty IMO.
Is this a sign of what is to come? The next gen of boat engines look like what is under the hood of my mercedes. I will miss the bling, the headers that you can see your face in, sculpted fuel rails and blowers that did not need plastic covers over them. At least polish the cat converters

Nice shop, nice boat......is anyone else disappointed with the look of the 1350?

And once you ride in a boat that has these motors, you wont care if they look like a pile of dog crap...They are simply AMAZING!!!
