3.0 sportmaster lower info
#11
We just rebuild 4 sportmasters for 2 boats. There is a service bulletin on prop shaft care which helps. Under the water pump is a seal carrier that should be changed, along with all seals, orings and water pump divider plate gasket.Merc has a newer part# for the gear set, which means they hardened them.We usually end up changing the prop shaft and vertical shaft because of corrosion.

Hey for the rest of you guys I just had Nopper do my lower units and they came out great!
They arent tested in the water yet, but they should be good.
Taylor marine, seal carriers for under the water pump, Vent kits for the shift shaft bushings, New bearings new seals, ready to go for a great season.
I cannot say enough about how easy NOPPER was to deal with and how quick the turn around was, and on top of that they even called me and lowered thier price after seeing my lower parts and peices!
I had another guy try and RAPE me on them! So it really shows just how good and trust worthy Nopper really is....
I just cant say enough good about Pete and his company at this point in time!
Hopefully Ill be on here later in the season saying just how bullet proof they are after Pete helped me Get them set up right.

My 28 Skater has a line running from the top vent hole of the Sportmaster lower to a drive overflow bottle mounted in the bilge area, like you would see on an I/O. Seems like a great idea. You can see the level, and if there is any water in the fluid. No problems yet after years running this way.
