1 of my drives is letting water in but not leaking oil out. Is there a place on the drive this happens more often ? I plan on getting a seal kit but would like a little info .. Thanks

Check the seals under the water pump plate if they are leaking you will never see gear oil on the water or around the boat the water pump pulls oil out of the gear case under power and sends it through the cooling system and out he exhaust replace the seal carrier as a whole if its not the new yellow one(not included in the seal kit) hope this helps.

Its probably coming in from the top cap, when the drive is under pressure from the water pump pumping the water in through the transom the water puts pressure on the top cap..remove the top cap and replace the o-ring,merc made a rubber plug that also goes in the area to prevent this from happening,i think they discontinued that rubber plug but ?? still check to see if it is still available..

My Experience. Had a drive brought to me with milky oil. Found out that prop had been damaged pretty bad and that threw the balance off a bunch. That in turn, caused the prop shaft to wobble. I checked the runout on the prop shaft. It was out of spects. I feel that when the drive oil got up to temperature and started to cool down, water was drawn in past the seal. The part that was strange was the drive didn't leak under a static pressure or vacuum test. I replaced the prop shaft and carrier seals. no more leak.....
