Bravo 1 or XR?
Is it possible to rebuild a bravo1 to an XR, using the 1" prop shaft/lowers?
The reason I ask is, I had purchased a boat late last season; the inspection survey states the drives are stamped to xr's. I checked and couldnt find anything stamped xr (maybe im retarded, which is possible). I know the boat came with bravo 1's and the prop shaft for a xr is 1.25 " and mine are 1inch. Is there a way to tell if the uppers are xr's, without taking them apart? Hope that wasnt too confusing. Any input is appreciated, thanks in advance. |
If you take the back cap off you can see if the gears are straight cut. The cap can be removed without too much trouble and you should be able to reuse the o ring when reinstalling the cap. It's not a bad idea to remove that cap and inspect the shift linkage and grease the shifter ball detent anyway.

Removing the top cap is the easiest way. BTW: you can run an XR upper and a regular Bravo lower without issue.

Dont forget to drain the oil out of the unit before you pull the back cap.

the stickers on the side are different from a Bravo 1 to a Bravo XR too
