Imco SC won't go all the way in
 

Help,

Freshened up the motor this winter and installed the new
XR red dot gimbal bearing. Engine alignment seams good. alignment tools goes in easy and the grease marks look good. the new Imco SC input shaft has 3 O-rings and my old B1 only has 2.
My problem is the old B1 installs without any problems.
The new Imco stops just as it hits the 6 bolt treads. Shift cable is in and looks OK, I turned the prop shaft as i was install the Imco Drive, but still stops just before the drive goes on the treads. is there a differents between the input shafts besides the third O-ring.

The boat is a 1998 Daytona 770HP, Everything i read said
it should go on. Going to call Imco in the morning and retry
next weekend

One of mine does the same thing. i had to pull it in the rest of the way with the nuts. Seems like the studs are binding up on the housing.

The Imco drive stops just before it touches the treads, i've
pulled out the drive made sure the U-joints were lined up and
the shift cable was lineup and then had a friend help the second time, also using a drive stand. After fighting with it for a hour i put my original B1 back in and it went right in no problems.

My teague did the same thing when i had it out for a while. Might be the new o-rings, did you check engine alignment, did you grease the shaft

Engine alignment is good and i did grease the shaft and
O-rings. But the O-rings have been on the Shaft since i bought
the drive last year, they are new but been on the shaft in the box for 9 months. I do have a new set of O-rings I'll try next weekend. Do I need the third O-ring since my old B1 only had two?

Mine is tough going in also. I use my drive stand on wheels, get it lined up and the input shaft started in the coupler, then give the stand a good swift kick. Sounds crude but it goes all the way and bottoms out. If I dont do it like that I need to pull it in with the studs.

I had turn turn over motor with a breaker bar and she slipped in and my alignment was good also might of had the angle of the dangle wrong but it worked for me. Drive gets heavy when it doesnt slide in the first time

Also, gimbal bearing needs to be perfectly straight. They do move alittle in there, making it hard to line up. I usually use just the end of the alignment tool move the bearing around alittle.

Make sure you are not forcing the crank forward in the engine. It will make short work of the rear main thrust surface and the rest of the engine, so I have been told..
