TRS Hinge Pin Tool
#1
Planned on changing the bellows & the tran tailstock bearing tomorrow & realize i need a hinge pin tool. Is there an equivelant adapter i can pick up from Home Depot or something, or will i have to try & get from a Merc dealer?
Also, can someone point me in right direction on how to replace the tailstock bearing? I think i was just told to remove the seal & use a slide hammer to pull it out.

A 1/2" allen wrench will fit it. Merc Trans or Borg-Warner?
Merc Trans you have to pull the engine and trans to change the tailstock bearing. Borg-Warner you remove the snap ring and pull the bearing with a suitable puller.
Parts #14 and #15 in the diagram.

Thanks for your help, its a BW.
Also this bellows tool I bought. Is it just a spreader to fit it to the mounting point? It didnt come with directions & isnt in the manual. Im guessing its to attach when reassembling to transom assembly.

Miserable day with the drives.
Broke the screws off both trim senders trying to remove them. Will now need to drill those out of the assembly. The trim sender wire covers just flaked off the metal. So will need to buy another sender kit since i only had one spare. I dont think this helmet has ever been removed in the 20 years.
Also is there any reason to have the exhaust bellow if i dont have switchable exhaust? Is there a block off plate i can install instead?
I just realized from the diagram i ordered bearing (13) & seal (12), but that must face the tranny. I need bearing (14). crap
I think it might be cheaper to just buy Konrads by the time the nickle & diming is done bringing these drives up to snuff.

Did you get the pins out? The tools are sold by Sierra as well, you should be able to get one shipped to you. I remember seeing one at West Marine even recently.
Mine were a pain in the a**. PB Blaster, Heat, Breaker Bar, cheater pipe, I thought something was going to break for sure. They came loose with a heckuva pop.
Actually replacing the bellows was the easiest part.

The hinge pins are also installed with locktite making them intentially hard to remove. To be safe you should remove the driveshaft bellows first and then you can put the torch on the area around the hinge pins to break them loose before putting the breaker bar to them. Otherwise you may rip out the threads on the bell housing along with the pins and then you will have to send it to JR marine to fix the threads.

No we didnt get them out. Couldnt find a place that sold the tool, or 1/2" allen wrench. Buddys place where i working on boat said he had one, but we couldnt find it. I finally threw in the towel to regroup for next weekend. Going to order the tool for myself along with the correct bearings & more misc parts. Doesnt look good for making the poker run in couple weeks.
