Default IMCO SC rebuild

So I'm throwing this out there on how many different dollar amounts I get on this. Case's are perfect. needs full upper and lower 1.50 gear set. All bearings/races, seals, u-joint, upper drive shaft, and clutch. $5600 plus tax per side. Is this reasonable or out of line. Does it really need to have everything replaced after 1 tooth sheared on upper? 1st time for me on this and not sure if I'm being taken for a ride or if this is a reality check?!? I know the other side is going to go soon and may not need all parts but the bid was worst case on other as well. Grand total: $11396.00 plus tax.

Rarly does a tooth come off at speed and not do damage to something else in the drive. Also depends on how much metal was circulated thru the drive and how worn where the other parts before it went. If you know the other side is going soon, I assume there are alot of hours on them? There's about $3500+ in parts there that you mentioned for the one side. The thing with the SC's is that they are basically only XR's with a beefier casing and a replacable upper tower. I think your definitly at the upper end of the price range though and could try to negotiate it down a bit, $10K is a nice round number. And get your used parts back for spares, at least the gear sets that are not blown. Might save a season some day.

With all the upper gear failures if you pay the long dollar make sure you get some kind of warranty if possible, Smitty

Well they are in process of breaking down the other drive to give me a more tollerable amount. They took some off of their parts mark-up this am and said they would possibly take another couple hours off the un-broken drive since it's not locked up and full of metal. Were looking at about $9500-$10,000 now depending on what they find today. I hope this puts me in the ball park on what it should be by all of this thread's readers. Long dollar gets me a 90 day warranty starting in spring.

You'd be lucky to get the upper and lower XR gear sets for $2500. for the pair, each side. How you gonna do bearings, seals etc including labor for $3k per side? Verticle shaft and tower for sure in the blown one too. tell me who's doin a complete new rebuild on an SC for 3 grand, I'll have work for him, been blowing about 3 per season. Can't wait to get the SCX's

Fireboatpilot is correct on cost of parts unless someone knows of a supplier thats cheaper. I priced the parts for the blown side complete it was right at $3900 on two different sights. Give or take a couple hundred and 8 to 12 hours of laber depending who you talk to, and I think I'm there unless I'm missing something? Which brings me back to why I'm asking people that have been around this block before...am I?

Sounds like your price is close to fair. What about selling your uppers used and broken and upgrade your uppers to SCX and rebuilding your sc lowers?
