I have a imco -1 sc drive on a 2000 271 fastech. I bought the boat with this setup so I am not sure if there was a benefit to getting the shorter length or not. Im running 650hp 540ci engine. turning a 30 pitch labbed bravo1 prop. turning it 5200rpm solid 76-77 gps fastest I have seen is 78.5. What are you running? I am always looking to hear new setups.

I have also wondered the same. I have a 693hp 540 in my Fastech 271. With the stock length lower unit i saw 79 GPS with a box stock 26p Bravo one prop at 5200rpm. I still had at least 1/3 throttle left. The Boat ran out of prop. I am currently running a box stock 28p Bravo one and running around 83mph and still have around 1/4 throttle left. Still running out of prop. I am thinking in the end the prop will be a 30-32 lab and running 85 plus. These speed are all with a stock length Bravo XR. Right now anything over 78+ is a little scary. The boat starts to chine walk after that speed and makes me a little nervous. Just switched to full hydraulic steering, hopefully that helps. And yes, i had dual ram Imco add on steering before switching to full hydraulic. Hope this helps. Jeff Wurl
