#7 drives?
Hi.
I have found a pair of #7 drives with 1:1 ratio for diesels but i can't find any info about these drives, are they the same as #6? is there parts for them? Regards Jocke |
I'd suggest you search around here, it's been up before.
Don't know much about them, but they are not like the #6's. You might be able to bolt on a #6 lower, but I'm not sure. The lower is very different. They where not in production for long, not a big hit. If you need #6's, I'd suggest you look for #6's. |
#7's were designed for use with diesels, hence the high ratios. They share some parts with the #6's, but the ratios were all different, and I think the lower is different entirely.
|
Thanks, is it possible to find spareparts for them? i'm thinking of using them with diesels but if it is impossible to find parts i will have to go with something else.
What are they worth with everything including props and steering? |
Here are the parts for the 7 drive to look through.

http://www.mercruiserparts.com/selec..._nbr=SSM+SEVEN The lower gear seems much bigger than both dry and wet sump 6. |
What could a pair of ssm 7 be worth?

Have you already purchased the drives? You should look for something else. Depending on your max rpm, you might not need a high ratio. I remember reading some info about prop speed being the key to good diesel performance. You could look for a set of ASD #8's. Stronger and lighter than a #6, and have shown to work great with not only gas, but also diesels. What kind of boat are they going on, and what is your budget for drives? |
No i have not bought them yet, if i want i could trade them for my chris craft stinger 312.
Yes i would rather have arnesons but the boat (scarab meteor 5000) has a notched transom and do not know if that would work, i had ASD 8 with 16" dropboxes on my last boat a chris cat and they're great. ASD8 without dropbox 1:1 ratio would be the best choise and they're less expensive than most speedmasters. |

mercury launched these right around the time of the six dry sump...
they are a combination of a six upper and an NXT lower... project was scrapped and the NXT is the result.... I'm only to assume parts will be an issue |

Don't have the answer to your question, but got a question.

Razor is right you want prop speed to go fast whit diesels but also want to get on plane that s why the use 2 speed transmissions Look for Habana Joe here hè can tell you all and even more to go fast whit diesels!! |

The gimbals cost about 12,000. for a pair. I personally don't think they are "worth" $12,000. No gold anywhere on them that I could find. |
