Stern Jack for Bravo 1

Has anybody used these on a twin engine boat?
What are the advantages?
What are the disadvantages?
Thanks for any input.

Yes they do work.We put a set on a 32 Enforcer and it picked up 4 MPH and carried the bow much better.

Do you need a set? I have a complete set with drive rams extended and extended Mayfair steering rams with all the mounts, hoses and cables if you need them.

I know the Stern Jack is no longer made and I know that they usually were beneficial.....but here is the question......Why aren't more people running them? Do they cause a great deal of added stress on the gimbal assembly or does dual hyd. steering make it OK? I have thought about adding one but am unsure......

Back when these were popular we installed several twin and single units. When we used them with HP gimbal rings and hydraulic steering we had zero problems after several years. We installed a few with standard gimbal and no hydraulic steering and had gimbal problems with all of them within a year.

They are a good product with the proper installation but that goes with anything you purchase.

With extension boxes becoming more popular in the past 10 years and offered as a factory option these became less popular which is why they were dropped from production.

I've had one for 10 years with hyd steering and stock gimbal. The guy I bought it from ran it for 5 yrs w/o hyd steering. The steering pin was worn but the rest was okay. It was easier for me to add the hyd steering than replacing the gimbal....It was worth 6mph on my boat supposedly...

I am thinking of putting one on also but with a blackhawk.wondering if it will work and find a good one for sale.

heres my 2cents on stern-jak.i had one on my 27fever.it was on there when i bought it.i ran it a year and took it off.heres why.one,i hated the way it looked on the back of the boat,it extended beyong the swim platform and was afraid that someone would jump off the back of the boat and cut themselfs on the prop.another thing i did not like was that i have no hyd/steering and it was a ***** to dock the boat, trailer.i did lose 3mph on the boat, but the extra stress, the saftey issue and bad dock manners out weighed the good things, just my 2cents

US1 Fountain 04-06-2012 11:21 AM

Had a buddy had one and he said also stated the extra stress it puts on the gimble do to moving the weight/torque further back, yet the gimble pivots stay the same. I'd think w/o external hyd steering, you'd really be pushing it???

proboat-wes 04-06-2012 09:09 PM

i would not even think about putting one in front a blackhawk.im working on a customers now and the dual prop has put a great deal of wear on the hinge pins and swivel shaft . and especially the starboard side of the wing plate that supports the drive.throw the jack plate into the equation and youll have a worn out transom assembly in no time.also shift cable is no longer available that was added 9 inches too, just my 2-cents

Thank you for posting all of this valuable knowledge. How can I determine if my 1987 Bravo set up with stock internal hydraulic steering (I was told by a car mechanthat it was the same pump as a corvette) has the more durable HP gimble ring? It currently tracks steers easy, straight and steady at 60mph cruise, 68 WOT

Dominator24 10-08-2014 08:42 PM

I am considering installing a mayfair add on steering system with my bravo 1 stern jack, has anyone done this? I am getting a quote on 17-4 heat treated 13 inch studs to tie it all together with their wing plate.

Dominator24 10-08-2014 09:01 PM

Wanted: Bravo stern jack shift cable or pictures of stock cable modification. Thank you, Jim

Dominator24 10-08-2014 09:07 PM

Do you still have your Bravo 1 SJ equipment? I am primarily interested in the mayfair steering and shift cable. I have a new SJ without a shift cable and I am currently getting a quote for 13 inch studs to tie it together with mayfair's current add on steering set up. Thanks, Jim 603 568 8917

I have complete for Alpha. New Bearing installed. Comes with longer/welded trim rams.

It would take me a few days (maybe a week ?) to put all pieces in a box. My garage has hardwood flooring stacked up and blocking some of my schit. LOL.

Oh, I have instructions saved on my computer too.

SB 10-08-2014 09:16 PM

Ooops - that guys post I quoted and replied to was from Febuary. LOL.

So does anyone have a L&S or IMCO Stern Jack Bravo app for sale ?
