Default Remanufactured Drives

What's the skinny on Merc "remanufactured" drives? I was told they come with a 1 yr warranty. Anybody own one? I guess it wouldn't be much different than a "rebuilt" drive.

Well I'm guessing that they are built to exact specs, by someone who builds drives all day long. That could be wishful thinking.

I don't think SEI makes HP stuff, XR's, etc.

Something let loose in the upper and I think it was rattleing around in there for a while. There was real fine metal throughout the drive. Also a tooth broke off one of the gears, and a stud snapped off the top cap.

Coincidentaly this all happened about 4 outings after I switched to a LH prop?

Anyway, I ordered a whole new drive and I'm going to get this one rebuilt when time and $$ are available. I should be back on the water next weekend.

I had a guy send me a warranty upper unit, that was replacing his XZ after it broke. I opened it up to check the specs on it and found it was missing the top thrust bearing on the upper gear. Would have lasted a few minutes at best. So they do what they can, but Monday is still monday. That guy that assembles them may have had a bad day. Good thing I took a look or it would have been a bad thing.
You have to trust they are doing their job and you wont have problems. That is the normal course of action. But then there are some drives that dont get all the parts. This was only one case. I guess that is part of boating???
