Default Trim not working

My starboard trim pump is not working and drive is in the +7 setting. Ho do I diagnose if it is a wiring issue (including loose connection) or pump went south. Thses are the old trim pumps. Anyone have a manual? Or can I at least let the pressure out and the drive down some way until I get it out to a shop?

It's usually the solenoid on the trim pump that goes out. You can jump it with a short piece of wire to find out. There are a few posts on this with more details.

Easiest/non-messy way to adjust drive in the mean time would be to disconnect the trim rams from the drive.

if you hit trim button and solenoids click, then it isn't switches. jump solenoids and see if trim runs. then completly bypass sol and see.if motor runs jumping across big posts on top, solenoid is bad. if runs by firing solenoid trigger wire, switches or wiring is problem. if you motor does not run when jumping across big posts on top, motor is probably the issue. FIRST; before you do anything, make sure you have 12 volts at big wire on top of sol and make SURE the ground is connected...

Turns out it must be the "in" solenoid because when I jump it works. Works on the out from the switch.

It was the solenoid- Replaced it and all works. Man, not an easy job but not that bad - about 1.5 hours.

Is your boat the one that sits behind Troy Oakland airport?
