Can you switch the rotation of a Bravo Drive easily?

I have heard that after about 300-hours its a good idea to switch the drives from side to side and switch the rotation to wear the opposite side of the gears.

Is this true and can it be done without replacing any parts?

It can be done without replacing any parts. You would have to switch the drives and then change the way the cables hook up at the shifters. However a lot of people say this isn't a good idea to be changing the wear pattern.

Yes you can do that....just swap cable locations at the shifter.

You're not wearing the opposite side of the upper gearset gears, you're just switching from top to bottom or vise versa which one is the forward ( loaded) gear.

In the lower, that would be true though.

I've never had a set of XR upper gears last 300hrs
to even worry about it though.

ummmmmm........he is swapping drives side to side, not prop rotation. Thus, no need to swap any cables at the shifter......right????? Just keep the props on the same sides they are on now.

I thought about doing it on mine, but with the amount of hours I have(500) and advice from John P, decided against it.

Not sure why you are worried about gear wear either but you can change rotation in one of 2 ways. The first is pull both drives and switch them on the transom. That will change rotation on both drives but leave the props spinning the same as they were before the switch; ie. the way the boat runs and more importatnly docks now will be the same. The second option is to change the cables (the one that co,mes to the front of the binnicle goes to the back and the one that goes to the back goes to the front). This way you do not have to pull the drives but the props will spin in opposite directions so you will have to switch the props. This will change both the running attitude of the boat and the docking attitude of the boat.

don't do it. they are settled in and used to being stressed in 1 direction. switching back and forth is like bending metal back and forth. gets weaker each bend.

that might be the stupidest analogy I have read on OSO....ok, maybe not, but close.....especially if you believe the gear metal is actually bending

Brain, keep that oil changed and stop playing with things that are not broke. If you want help swithcing the rotation on that Sonic I can help you with that, just get out here to CNY and party! Sandy pond party is July 21st, Picton Party in the Thousand Islands is August 11th. I don't want to hear excuses.

Like the above stated, switching the drives will swap the rotation but everthing else will stay the same, props spin out shifter cables stay.

Swap the cable points and props and drive will turn in, which may gain speed and will also swap the internal rotation.

BTW, my tanks are clean finally, been ripping!
