Default h2x shifter adjustment

Have question for you guys, I have a lot of slop in my shifter when its in neutral sometimes I have to move it to make up switch to start boat and I have to really push it back to get it in reverse but it does goin to reverse , forward is fine,. My question is, is there adjustment in the helm cable to the shifter or does it sound like the drive cable is out of adjustment any help would be appreciated.... thanks

I would look at the shifter itself.. Sounds like it is way too sloppy. They can loosen up and cause what you are describing. Look at the shift cable at the transition block. See if the cable is moving when you are working the shifter.. If not, I would think it is in the shifter mechanism itself.
