Sorry to hear this.. what does the bearing surface on the gear look like? I take it this is the LH rotation drive?

weldcrane 08-14-2012 05:52 AM

I have seen two of these at my shop so far this year... sorry to hear...

I still can't believe this broke??? Thats alot of money for drives to have one break, and Bill is very conservative with his boat never beats up on it. Hopefully the guys at IMCO make it right for you Bill, gotta get back in the water this season.

Before the internet I was always told this every time I had something give out that I thought should not have. It is a lot harder now for companies to tell you that when you can find out that it is a common problem or design problem.

When my bravo drives fails I think I will stay away from these drives.

Thats the first time I ever seen the upper gears from a SCX, what did they do just make everything identical to a Bravo but bigger right down to the cone clutches?

weldcrane 08-14-2012 08:36 PM

thats what they did but something let go top bearing

offshorexcursion 08-14-2012 08:45 PM

So sorry to hear àbout that. Those drives should be expected to last 500-1000 hours behind any properly maintained boat under 850 hp. Imco better man up and take care of you.

I bet there are other stories like yours but not everyone is on oso. There also are some good stories about this drive also.

Just sucks there is no good answer for drives!
