Where did the shaft snap? Top, middle, bottom? RH rotation? What do the teeth on the upper gears look like, are they snapped off? Any damage to the upper clutch shaft or the bearings in the towers?? It is all speculation, until the full picture is put together.

+2 All American Drive Service or Mr. Gadgets. Having the right mechanic makes all the difference. Drive shower is a must, and definitely run Amsoil Severe Gear, I recommend the 75w/110.

I would say somebody cut corners or didin't know what they were doing when they were in the drive last time, whatkinda prop center line and are you running a 5 blade, I hear of alot more destruction with 5 blades.
You would be my hero if you wrote a thread on here with pictures of what you do to maintain your drives

I agree on the 5 blade, especially if it is a solid hub vs. the slip hub that comes with a bravo prop.

Don't know how much that 29 ft boat comes in at for LBS, but that does seem like a lot of boat for one bravo tied to a blue engine, with a 5 blader.

You could try having a shop "put it together better" like Mr. gadgets, or Max Machine worx, or Bravo shop, or all american drive service, etc. But theres no magic ferry dust.

You could run Amsoil severe gear oil, Bravo shop oil, Royal purple, redline, etc and hope it helps.

You could waste money on upgrade parts but I would save my money for a spare drive, and/or rebuilds.

Could upgrade to a IMCO SCX, BMAX, Konrad, Arneson, XPower, etc,

Do you have any dreams of upgrading boats?

Good luck
Considering both those options of buying a new X/R and having a reputable shop rebuild my old drive as a spare....So when, not if it happens again I,m not without a boat for 2 weeks. Or Upgrading to IMCO,SCX,BMAX. Are they an upgrade? From what I understand they have alot of the same parts. Trying to learn what people with a whole lot more power than my boat has run successfully.

I can understand having to do a lot of maintenance with that kind of HP. I think you are right about the rebuild (that somebody cut corners). Not sure about the prop centerline question. All the props I run, I have 4 depending on altitude are 4 blade bravo 1 or a Rev 4.

The shaft snapped 3/4 of the way down the upper splined section. Yes, RH. Can't answer the other questions cuz I have not had the time to tear apart either the upper or lower. Trying to figure out what to do/buy. Who to have rebuild or not.

The XR vertical shaft does not normally snap, unless something locked up in the lower. Let us know what you find when you get into it.
