Default Xr shorty spacers (stupid question)

Just wondering if anything needs to be done with verticle shaft when adding spacers? When you add a 1" or 2" spacer I would have thought the drive spline would then move 1-2" lower also. Does this mean less spline contact with upper?
Was considering 2" shorty with new project and just add spacers to suit but is it that simple?

Default spacer

You need longer studs and a longer connection bush for the vertical shaft but this is sold whit a spacer ,comes in a kit .

if you have to cut the transom keep on the high side your always can come down whit the spacers but never go up or you have to be very handy !

I figured that might be the case. Thanks. That's why I was thinking I'd go a shorty and I can always space lower.
