Bravo 1 hp rating
 
I have a donzi 26zx with a new engine that should make 575-600hp. Will my stock bravo 1 handle this kind of hp? I do most of my boating on a small lake and usually cruise at about 45mph with an occasional short top speed run.

that all depends on you!!!! i ran 850hp thru stock bravos on a 31 cat and broke the floor out of forward gear twice a year. fixing to run 600hp thru a stock bravo also it just all on how you drive.

Easy on the hole shots and try not to air it out

I have ~650 hp N/A on a Bravo 1x on a single 25 deep V....have over 50 hours with no issues.

The 1x has a stronger upper if im not mistaken

Lets face it, you are going to get it on.....more than you say, otherwise you wouldn't have bumped the HP :) And drive wear is more than just the hole shot, your tq jump and new cruising speed spinning a bigger prop can be a load as well.

The good thing you have going is you shouldn't be out of the water much on a small lake, coming in a out and holeshots are the hardest thing on drives.

IMO why make a change unless you have to? B1's are everywhere and can be had relatively cheap compared to XRs, and Imcos. Keep a spare in your garage for a quick swap if needed.

Yes, plan on having a spare laying around. As your drives break, you can upgrade them. If something breaks that destroys the housing or such, then swap your upgraded parts (the ones that didn't get trashed) into another housing and upgrade whatever broke.

You would be well-served to start with a 1x or XR drive if you can find a deal on a good one.

I disagree on starting with an XR, why add the maintenance of he doesn't need it? The straight cut gears we have on our XRs require attention that a b1 doesn't need.


B1 are cheap, easy to find, and supper efficient as far as fear drag is concerned. Run what you have with a spare waiting. If it blows too soon then start shopping. But if you are heavy on the sticks and air it out an XR isn't gonna solve your problems either.

It will break. Mine lasted 7 hours after my repower with the 525. You are making more HP and have a heavier boat. Don't go too far from shore if you don't have towing coverage. My XR/Imco has been trouble free for 4 seasons now. There must be a huge difference in the strength of the upper gears.

BTW, mine was a 1 "X". I don't think the "X" means sh!t.

I have over 300 hrs on my 1999 bravo 1 drive and the last 50 hrs are with 750 hores going through it. your boat is not a drag racing boat so if you dont drive it like one it will last. GET A GOOD DRIVE SHOWER IMPORTANT
