i just asked this about number 6s... im not feeling 250 hours between rebuilds...

im wondering if a pair of 3 or 3a's will hold up to diesel tq...

I have 750 HP and 770 tq. I have broke one pair in 400 hours.

Edit: I have 3's, not 3a.

what did you brake? thx, for the info...

how many hours between rebuilds is recommended?

Busted the lower gears. Rebuild when they break cause it's getting tougher to find gear sets. I have a complete set of drives I keep on hand and a complete set of upper gears as well.

You asked about diesels and #3/3a's. My only reference is the old 41' CIG attacks. They ran 3208 cats with #3's, I know those old diesels are not powerhouses though.

I think the only drive that will hold up to Big power diesel tq would be surface drive's for the long run

check out

Wiesman drives
and Arnasons

Rick G.

I have new RH and LH lower gear sets for the #3A & #5 SSM drives, but not for the #3 or #4 drives. The lower pinion gears have a different internal spline on the #3/4 than the #3A/5's. I have one set of RH and one set of LH used lower gears for the #3, but that is the extent of my stock. There just has not been that much of a demand for the #3/4 lower gear set for me to mfg. them in any quantity. That could change if the demand was there. Anyone else need them?
Gary
