Can't explain how much I hate the smell of gear oil! After rebuilding my drive last week I was hoping I would never have to smell it again. Then, this happens.
I have a leak right at the transom, plastic fitting that goes through transom. It is not the hose, which I will replace anyway. Curious if someone can guide me through changing this fitting? Looks that it is held on inside with a clip, which is terrible access. Do I need to remove the drive and gimble, or can this slip out with the drive trimmed up and turned to the left?

if you would like you can call me tomorrow or even tonite about how to fix this. That plastic fitting is a POS from merc and I have to change them all the time. especially when people change the u - joint bellows out. They break them all the time. They are PITA to get to especially for a big person. 817-658-7721 if no answer leave contact info will call you back within an hour. Do not take anything apart because you do not have to. I will tell you what tools you need to this easier and how.

It's not that bad to replace. Must likely you are going to have to pull drive and pull hinge pins. But if you got a lot patience and little hands you might get the new one in there. Have and extra e clip on hand. Put a rag under plastic fitting inside so when you pull e clip that holds fitting in it doesn't fall into never never land. Depending what exhaust system will determand how much room you'll have for yours to get e clip on and off. Sometimes you'll have to pull water intake hose off inside boat to get hands on clip. With out looking in manual I think you cut new hose to 10 1/2 inch.
