Twin surface drives both rotating the same direction

Maybe a stupid question but what would be the effects of a deep v with surface drive technology having both drives turn in the same direction?

I would imagine triple engines boat have a similar issue since 2 of the 3 drives turn the same direction. Just curious if anyone knows what could be expected?

Thanks
Jim

I would imagine it would make the boat list to one side b/c of torque. Like a single, but you would have 2. Wouldn't think it would pull due to hyd steering?

This could be counteracted with a bit of tab. Wonder how it would handle around the docks?

I don't think it would do well. When I turned mine IN, I lost a lot of the reverse thrust I had when OUT.

So basically, you would have 1 IN and 1 OUT essentially. So one that was IN wouldn't have the same reverse thrust as the other. Actually full reverse with some throttle might make it turn to one side?

I wonder how it would effect the boat at speed, remember we are talking about a surface drive!

Ok, I'll bite. Why?

I mean you would not want to run two propellers with a Z drive going the same direction, you would not want to run two propellers on an Outboard the same direction so why would you want to do this with an Surface Drive?

Mine turn inboard. That produces transome lift and "lightens" the boat at speed I'm told, outboard burys the transom some and is more for stability than speed. Clevers props aren't much around the docks anyway. I just drop one side in gear and throttle up the side I'm turning to. It's a little noisier than inboards (LOL!) but it'll turn around great once you get the hang of it.\
I've never heard of anyone turning them the same direction though. Must be a reason I suppose?

Jim , you still installing those Kaamas? Good thing about them, to reverse rotation, just have to run transmissions in forward or reverse.

Terrible idea, the transmissions only have a few drive plates on the reverse side, they are not made to do anything over idle in reverse.

Your probably thinking about a Velvet Drive style transmission. The Kaama had no RH or LH drive so they used a Twin Disc MG502 marine gear and those I believe were full time Forward or Reverse. They are heavy and they eat about 80 hp but they are reliable.
