These were on the back of my 28' Cigarette when I bought it. I upgraded the power to 500hp 383's. With that being said, I am going to upgrade to Bravos and trying to figure out what these are worth. I don't want to ruin them if someone can use them on a smaller boat. I haven't taken them apart, but do know that they are pre-alpha uppers with SS or CLE lowers with cut down shafts. They are counter-rotating and 1.5 ratio. They are the same length as a standard Alpha. What are you guy's thoughts?

I'm thinking if you sell the drive your not going to have enough room to remove it lol .prob should yank bearing carrier and upper cap and try to see how much they have left to.give .a lot of work for nil unless that boat was hauling the mail

Your upper is pre alpha. The upper with the eyelet hook on the top cap if I remember correctly ranged from 1966 thru 1979 or maybe thru 1980 or 1981. A true Alpha One persay started for year models 1984, but really was refined in 1986..
Mercruiser listings of these type of drives went from 60's to current. they offered the sterndrive in 1961 (if I remember correctly) after Volvo Penta.
I - 1963,
IA,IB,IC, & EZ Shift 1964 - 1966
I-R 1966 or 1967 - ?
R - 1983
MR 1984 thru 1990
Alpha One 1984 thru 1990
Alpha One Gen II - 1991 to current.

msher44,
Yes, I have the tie bar that goes with these. The problem is, the drives are very close together. My boat is a staggered set up.
airjunky,
Yea, its in there pretty tight. I have to put it all the way back in building to get other boats in and out. I expect to be in the low 80's with my setup when done. I got a Bravo setup on trade for doing some work, so they are sitting there, and will be better for my setup. Also, don't really want to deal with the shift interrupt.
Thanks to all for replying.

Mason84,
i may well be interested in one also if you decide to sell. Please keep me in mind, would look perfect on my vintage formula single. I am checking with some old school mercruser racing mechanics to identify for you, i'll let you know what i find.
Happy boating.
