TRS drive parts/help!

I recently purchased a 1977 Scarab 300. I won'the lie, it has turned into a bigger project than I had originally intened. It was supposed to be mechanically sound. Turned out to have a blown motor and now I'm discovering drive issues.

Long story short I'm looking for the plate and bearing (as shown in the attached photo) as well as a U-joint seal.
I'm having trouble finding parts any suggestions as to where to look? Anything else I should check or replace while I have the motor out?

Thank You for any help!http://s30.postimg.org/fbvsdn7ox/imagejpeg_06468.jpg

Ouch, that does not look nice. Any what condition are the drives in? I would check the hinge pins on the transom assembly for slop. As far as parts here is a complete trans. http://detroit.craigslist.org/okl/boa/4946448507.html

Will do, thank you!
That's a bit far for me, I'm in Dallas.

Is there a site I can order new parts from?

Someone has butchered that bearing retainer all up. Looks like the outer circumference has been ground down. This is a trick used so you can change that bearing without removing the engine/trans. Bad trick! Weakens the retainer. Besides studs being replaced by bolts, wrong washers and nuts. What a hack job! The retainer is no longer availiable from merc. They stopped making these trannys over 30 years ago. You can get one from this place but won't be cheap. http://www.kcmarinetr.com/Default.aspx
As for the seal and bearing you can get them from any merc dealer or on the internet. Seal is 26-62818, Bearing is 30-87919. Is that bearing bad?
That trans may need more work on it than you think. Shouldn't be any oil running out of the tailstock like that. Should be completely dry inside the tailstock.

www.kcmarinetr.com In deference to Picklenjim, anybody who mentions offshoreonly will receive a discount. I have been hibernating most of the winter and have a lot of MercTrans littering the shop floor. 360-739-3936

Something you might want to check. Look in the tailstock and see if there is a washer down in there over the splined output shaft. This is for the spring on the outdrive yoke shaft to press against. If this washer is missing then the seal in there will be wiped out. This washer is a must!

Don't know if you pulled it out of the boat like that but those nuts should have been loosened to relieve the pressure off of the rubber donut there in front of the retainer. Just an FYI. When reinstalling make sure their loose and put a little grease on the donut. Then after it's installed tighten them from outside the boat through the gimble housing.

Something worth taking note of, is the fact that the bore for the output bearing in the Merctrans is subject to wear. The bearing should fit very tightly. If the bearing is loose in the bore, it will establish a " harmonic vibration", which will over time weaken the output shaft. The output shaft will then "break", either forward or aft of the support bearing. If the bore is not too loose, a application of Locktite 660 is a excellent idea.......I have literally had to deal with hundreds of broken output shafts over the last thirty five years. It is just simple physics; continual vibration weakens steel. www.kcmarinetr.com

can that drive bearing with the 6 nuts be removed from the gimbal housing or does the engine have to removed?
