WOW - You are overflowing a one Qt. tank. sounds to me like you are getting some water in the oil inside the drive and it is boiling and forcing the oil out of the drive. I wouldn't think overheating the oil would be able to overflow that big of a reservoir.

was any part of the outdrive rebuilt lately - when exactly did this problem start , and in the mix what changed and or parts changed as soon as this problem started ?
What brand of oil ?
if someone rebuilt the upper possible rolling torque setting was set to high
do you have the proper gear oil level ?
what the condition of the gear oil and is it foaming from heat ?
Some gear oils are climbing in rotation ? Just saying

What type/design of reservoir cap/lid does this use? Is there a seal like an OEM lid and/or is there a vent like the orange rubber one-way valve on the Merc OEM lid.
A defective cap/lid could allow oil to spill out the top....On stock that is anyway. http://www.ebay.com/itm/OEM-MerCruis...b955d1&vxp=mtr
Have a picture of this reservoir.

I got the merc hi perf gear lube in it, its a week old. They r full Reservoirs are stainless and were new last yr. never have had any issues. The xr uppers are new this season for me. They have very low hrs on them. Never have been rebuild as far as I know Could there have been possibly an air pocket in the drive Maybe that passage that's in the water pick up between the drive halfs?

The oil that you use in the bravo drive is supposed to be synthetic. ( Merc HI PERF lube is ) How full are you filling the reservoir when it is cold. It should be 1/4 to 1/3 full cold. I would suggest getting a drive shower and trying it again. BUT keep an eye on it. You don't want to run it dry. Is the side of your drive chalky? ( white water spots )

Merc HI Perf gear oil is not a syn oil. It is made by Bel Ray and is Bel Ray lowest blend for gear Oil - I am not saying lowest in a bad way but for Bel Ray it is on their bottom Tier for gear oils on the marine side. I have the Spec sheet on it as well.
Mercruiser stock oil res and cap with the o ring is persay a one valve to keep gear oil in.
