Mystik 85w140 Results??
How manyare running or have run the Mystik 85w140 in their SSM or Bravo style drives and how did it perform? I've bought some to try in my XR's. Thanks!
|
i use it in my #6 drives, also know of some useing it in their #4s.i have used amsoil 90w140 in bravo drives but never tried the mystik.
|
its gave been using it for about 15 yrs..the red gear lube is some sticky stuff..they sell it at blains farm and fleet for around 65 bux for a 5 gallon pail.
|
ps they also have a wicked 15 w 50 diesel oil which works good in a hp application..
|
Thanks guys, I like the "stickiness" of it. I am thinking that maybe that will help the lube cling better to the gears hopefully providing better protection.

been using it on Mercruiser only many everything under 500 hp for about 3 years now. . Our area is getting less sportboats around year after year. It actually has been doing well. Never burned up and seems magnets are cleaner even with less fuzz.
Been using the 15 w - 50 motor oil in the same apps no problem at all. The 496's seems do well with it at long periods of sit time then started up - .some oil with these after long sit times the valve train chatter can be common. Just saying |
I ran the 85w140 mystik in my SSM #4's last year. Prior to that , i was running 80w90, different brand.
I lost no speed, my mpg didnt plummet, I didnt get upper geartrain rattle or oil flow issues up to the upper gear sets, lol. I have another new 5 gallon jug here waiting to go in the drives again for this summer. I am also using it in my dually's rear differential. Also, I did not lose mpg over the 80w90 that was in there. Then again, when its 90 degrees out, A/C cranking, towing a 14k lb load, I can care less about .3mpg if my gears have a little more oil cushion between them. The price is great at farm and fleet, and most importantly, its RED. And who doesn't like a red colored oil. Sorry, I don't have any specific oil analysis's for you on it, but generally, I think its hard to beat for the cost. I know MR BUP here has had good results with it, and he's in the marine business, and the late Brad Smith recommended it to his customers. And for the money, I can change it out 3-4 times to 1 verse the mercury oil. From what I understand, it is a Citgo brand |
Thanks, I'm definitely going to try it in my XR's. So far I've only ran Mercury and Bravo Shop Neo in them but I just cant help think the thicker oil will provide a little more protection in the weakest area.......gears.

MILD THUNDER, would you recommend it for trs drives also? If so which weight?
|
Been running it in our combine heads on the farm. Already have some, will give it a try on the next oil change. I also love the red color. It's good....
