Is there any good way to clean a bare aluminum lower unit? any types of cleaner or even sand paper or steel wool? Curious to if any one had any luck cleaning one.

Pretty sure I read on here WD40 and steal wool, and I remember it working well. Front to back sanding motion. Haven't done mine in a while but pretty sure that's what we did

But to answer the original question.. I use a red painters skuff pad and just rub in any direction. leaves a satin finish. If I had mine looking like ICDEDPPL I wouldn't have anytime to go boating lol

steel wool doesn't sound like the best choice. I always read people waring against it, as pieces get left behind and rust on the drive.

There is this stuff called alumaclean.....try a local truck supply....brush on wash off looks like new.....bestci have seen

I use NAPA Aluminum Brightener, Spray it on, brush and hose off. Looks new.

Scotchbrite pad and brake dry clean!

Green Scotchbrite and WD-40 works great. The WD works as a lubricant. Rub parallel with the prop shaft.
