i have a 87 cigarette 35 cafe racer that has TRS drives, I want to upgrade to remanufactured SSM 3a drives. Are the gimbles the same. I would get konrads but price wise exceeds the value of boat. Any info and suggestions would be appreciated.

No, the gimbals are totally different than TRS.
To convert to SSM 3,4,5, 3A, you need the appropriate transom assemblies, and a new SSM tailstock for the transmission. You will need to move the engines mounting location back a bit. You may also need to reglass the transom, esp if you plan to raise the X dimension up, and possibly modify tailpipes.

By the time you're done, If done right ? you will spend the cost of Konrad's, Im struggling with this same issue of what to do, besides all the obvious, you also need to move the engines back and up to mate with the inner plate, change tail stock's on the tranny's, might also need to recut for exhaust unless you modify the tails
1. 8-10k for 3a's
2. 1k for gimbles
3. 5-6k for transom
4. 1-2k for removal unless you do it yourself
5. And the list goes on & on
6. Props
HA ha I didn't read your post MT, but it looks like we agree
