If it needs all 1180 hp per side to run 165 shifting to a higher gear won't magically make it run faster. Look at any chart in a Car and Driver road test. A lot of cars they test hit top speed in 4th gear where they can reach redline. They may run the same or close in 5th or 6th but never faster.

But hey its not money do it and prove me wrong, I certainly don't have all the answers!

The reason boats don't typically have transmissions is because they need all the power they make at a given RPM to go a certain speed.
A 10.5 tire(41p prop) drag car has enough power to run 183mph on the top end, so he should leave the line in high gear? No you leave in a lower gear and shift to high gear. Trying to pull a 1.12 gear with a 41p prop from the word go is going to be hard to do. Max speed with a 1.24 gear with a 41p prop with 12% slip at 6000rpm is only going to run 165mph, that's the math. Max speed with a 1.12 gear with a 41p prop with 12% slip at 6000rpm is going to run 183mph. Also take in the fact that the faster a cat runs, the lighter it gets.

Prop the boat to the max that it can stand getting up on plane and pull to max rpm in 1st gear, start reducing the gear and see what happens The Navy, offshore race boats, drag boats, and the coast guard have been using this for years. Mercury banded these transmissions in the offshore circuit because the guys were kickin a** with them. The reason you don't see them in many privately owned boats is the cost and time to get them. We ordered them 5 months ago

I maybe wrong with this whole thing, because I surely don't have all the answers, but if so Wiesmann has a hell of a scam going on to still be in business for decades

Ill post some result when project is done.

One bada** piece of equipment!!!!

Ok I get it if its hard to get on plane with the props and gears you need to reach top end. Be cool if it works and you will have killer acceleration all around. But what have all the other 180+ mph cats done before you? There are quite a few of them out there. Also why are you figuring 12% slip it should be 3-5% at 180 or less

I was just using generic #s for the post. They should work great, ill keep the thread updated to see what the results end up being. Boat is far from being finished up, it has been a complete re-rig, interior, windshields, paint, etc.
