Have two tail stocks and both of them are in nice shape but the oil return holes are plugged with a little tapered plug. Was this a mod that guys did years ago ? What am I missing here ? Thanks guys

Was it for the drive lube reservoir that always leak all over the transom

Whoever did it did a nice job. I'm putting the drives back together and noticed the little plugs. I have pics but can't post
