Default Velvet Drives - 1987

Hi all - I know it's been talked about somewhere but i'm new to the BW transmissions and have a simple question. I've drained and refilled each of my transmissions. Right now, they read about halfway up on the dipstick, cold. Should I leave there, start and get trans warm, check again? I know the fluid will expand, so was leaving room for that. Simple question, just want to make sure i do it right as I'm using the boat for the first time this coming weekend.

Thanks!

The line on the dipstick is for immediate checking after shutdown warm. Once the level is correct warm, the manual suggests later checking cold and making your own mark.

Actually I have rebuilt several MercTrans for guys with TR houseboats. Here is what the MercTrans will look like.

MercTrans has the bellhousing made right on the trans and is all aluminum. BW will have a separate bellhousing and trans case is steel.

Thanks...I looked today and found the plate...I am pleased to say that it is definitely a BW...
Thanks for the help...this boat has 1800 total hours showing but the original motor and drive were replaced in 1985 with
The TR ,the velvet drive and the 454 cu.in motor....I have no idea how many hours were on the original and how many are
On the newer one....runs great though.
Also what type of oil should I use in the Borg Warner
