Hello,
First time on site. Was recommended by kc marine, to get some info about my houseboat. Hope some of you guys, can help.
I have a 454 Chevy with a tr or trs outdrive. Trans needs to be rebuilt. Merctrans 2. My questions is simple, can I take the transmission out while the boat is in the water? Was told by some I could, others I could not. Will save me about $1500 If I don't have to have it pulled out. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

No. Can you pull the engine out with the boat in the water? That's what you would have to do with the transmission along with it. Then when reinstalling it would be next to impossible to get the yoke shaft back into the trans.

There are also 6 nuts at the back of the transmission inside the bellows that have to be loosened prior to removal and then tightened after install.
