Smile Six drives

Evening all: Does anyone know the gear oil capacity for my # 6 drives, and what is the preferred fluid? I have heard Torco and Amsoil but I would prefer to stay with Merc products. Is the gear lube used in these drives the same as the Bravo and other drives? Thanx

Capacity depends on whether they are wet sump or dry sump

Hey Griff, The guy who serviced the drives claims to have put almost $600 of fluid in them, so I am thinking they are wet sumps. My issue is that even after all that, one drive is showing low on the sight window, and I just want to top it up with the proper fluid.

I think wets hold like 3.5 gallons. Torco used to be what Merc recommended.
I would only use the same lube as whats in them to add.

My 6A wet sump holds 18 to 19 quarts. I use 80-90 or Merc's 85-90 gear oil in it.

Thanks Griff and SFOcean, Whew, almost 40 qts. between them! At $18 per sounds like more than $600, so he wasn't pulling a fast one on me. I just have to find out what he used. Regards Guys
