Default Old Bmax drive worth anything?

I am hoping those that would know could answer my dilemma? My friend bought a Bmax drive about 2002. He never used it. Looking at it I can see the lower gear housing looks like a stock Merc with a better prop shaft. Just wondering what you guys think it's worth? I know he paid $10,000 back in the day. I am thinking about buying it from him if the deal is right. I have a 540 with a blower. Thinking it's putting out about 700hp at my elevation. Putting it in a 27 Lavey Craft Sabre. Or should I stay away from it. Thanks in advance for your thoughts. Don't hold back let me have it. Lol

The present owner of the Bravo Shop has made some changes to the drive since he took over..

I would suggest you start by contacting HIM...

I talked to Jon at the Bravo shop for a bit about this drive. He said there was or could be some issues with past business owners drives. porosity, and machining. He said it would probably be best to send it back to him, and have it checked.

Just thought I would let let everyone Know what I was told. Thanks!

There were some early drives that had a porosity issue. I ran one on a very similar setup. 720 HP 727 TQ 26" Velocity. It could blow up a Bravo at will and I ran the B-Max for six years and never had an issue. Changed drive oil every 25 hours.
As to value??? $7500 if it's still like new.

Just stated this in another area of the forum but I have one of the earlier Bmax drives but with an Imco lower. For about the last 5 years between me and the previous owner of the boat it had 800HP all the way to 930HP in front of it. Neither of us ever had a problem with it. Im still always worried tho as I can’t afford to buy another one

I never have good luck. I think I will pass on it. Jon told me I could send it back to him and he could do some checks on it. Just think I will go with a Imco or Bravo shop XR. Thanks for your thoughts on this.
