Default Help! I am going out of my mind with shift issues

I two boats with Bravo 2x drives and I’ve had more shift issues (delayed shift, have to bump rpms to engage, can’t seem to adjust) in the past year than I have in 18 years. I was using a top quality aftermarket oil and it seems that the problems began after I bought a 5 gallon pail and started using it. Shift issues in five drives.

Is it possible that the mix was wrong? Too slippery? Is there a limited slip additive that could have been not added correctly?

I’ve been really happy with this stuff otherwise and it comes highly recommended.

Thanks

Use Merc or Quicksilver Hi Performance gear lube. Cone clutches don't like to engage with some aftermarket gear lubes.

I had a similar problem when I started using Severe Gear in XRs. Several second delay when shifting. I switched back to Merc lube and the problem went away. With all fairness, I still use Amsoil oils/lubes - but my guess is that it was a little too slick for a used set of XRs behind 650+ hp.
