Default Alpha one, gen 1 bellhousing gasket

Are all drive to gimbal housing gaskets the same? Current one is paper with the raised orange sealant. It stuck like something fierce to the gimbal housing and drive. Some of the videos I’ve seen online shows a gasket that is more robust, almost like a rubberized metal gasket. Is this realty? I’d like to not put the Sierra marine paper gasket in again. Thanks

This is the Merc gasket. Quicksilver 94996Q2 Bell Housing Installation Gasket Kit - MerCruiser R, MR and Alpha One Gen II Drives
I use a ton of them.No issues with them sticking. i have never tried the Sierra so I don't know how different they are if any.

just took a drive ff that I haven't add off for 10+yrs this fall. Gasket came off with my fingers.

Are you guys using gasket tack or anything on the gasket to aid in sealing? I noticed a bit of water in one bellows, and the bellows are new. So figuring it was from the main bellhousing seal, or something else.

No, I install dry.

have you changed the 2 shift shaft bushing/seal in the gimbal helmet ? orig has just one lip, and Merc and aftermarket changed to a two lip seal. Look for installation hints on internet including youtube, Not too hard .but pre-reading tips and methods very worthwhile.

Edit in: here is a series of 3 quick vids on making a removal installation tool and how to use it.note, it doesn;t show everything involved to install/remove but is a good start in getting yourself ready for the ob. again, do a internet search to find/read others that have done it.
