Question, is there any reccommended maintenance on the caps and bottles or replacement interval?

My snowmobile experience tells me best practice is not to get the oil level high enough where it contacts the inside of top of the cap. The oil seems to gum up the valve in the cap over time. In the sled world, this can cause the oil to stop flowing into the motor and boom ! This is oil injected two strokes. But the cap vent is the same deal as these outdrive oil reservoirs.

The bottle needs to be cleaned out every so often, but know of nothing to do with the cap except visual. My 1995 boat has the original and has had no issues (fresh water use)

Replace Reservoir and Cap , the float in the reservoirs goes bad after while and you have to replace
the reser to fix it anyhow .
Besides it will be nice and clean and clear , not yellow and nasty like the old one .

I ordered a new cap, the reservoir looked good. George thought maybe the shift cable was out of adjustment so I bought the tool to check it again.
