Bravo 3 Oil Leak 1997 origin?
So when I fill it with one quart of drive oil, no leak. When I get to about a quart and a half then it starts to drip out of the prop hub. So thinking it is Not a prop shaft seal as that would leak all the way to empty. So where would it be leaking that is higher up? There is no oil coming out of the shift linkage area. None coming out of the water passage/pickup holes or anywhere else. It drips quickly out of the exhaust/prop hub. It will drip until about half a quart leaks out then it will stop. Then I can drain the remaining quart out of the drain hole. NO leaks at one quart, solid leak at a quart and a half. Any ideas? Thanks. 1997 Bravo 3.

It was not leaking and now it just started?

OK182663 serial #. 1997. Been leaking for a while I think, sure more than I thought tho.

Sounds like drop the lower unit is next step and have a look.

At 97 1/2 the new housing was introduced but since you've had this one for a while I will agree with Prismo, need to separate the halves and have a look.

Leak is in bearing carrier in lower unit where it sticks out aft of the main casing. Corrosion hole thru the side. Anyone ever change one of these? Tough?

Sorry but misunderstood where it was leaking.
If its leaking around the outside of the carrier, then probably need a new case The carrier needs a special tool to remove and it has right hand threads, so it is turn to the right (clockwise) to loosen/remove https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...ab80e6e484.jpg |
Yes that is the piece that has corroded thru to the point of leaking. It is leaking right thru the side wall of that goldish colored piece about an inch aft of where the exhaust flows in. If I can get it loose, is it difficult to change or can a new one just be threaded in? Any sims/adjustments needed? Thanks
