Arenson AS7 to Bravo XR

I know this would technically be going backwards but I’m looking at a boat(minus power and drives) that was cut for AS7’s. I want to use Bravo drives because I have access to them for cheap. The seller hasn’t drilled the new transom yet but thinks a Bravo drive would line up to the Hole cut for the AS7’s. Anyone think it would work?

Does he have the arnesons??

Not sure exactly what you are asking but if the boat had the asd7 arnesons conversions mounted on the boat you will have to fill the holes where the the transmissions were mounted in the transom .

He doesn’t have the arensons.

He cut the rectangle opening for them In a new transom and quit there. My question is would bravos cover the holes below or would I need to fill them in and start over.

I would assume, (and we all know what happens when you assume something) that the hole would be lower and larger than you want for a Bravo, if the plan was to move the transmission back into an extension. Which is what it sounds like because you say rectangle hole. If it was just the shaft and a drop box it would be a small round hole. Without dimensions and pictures, it's hard to say.
The picture is an old ASD 6 replacing a Bravo.

The inside hole was for the bravo's the next line was were I cut for the arneson asd7 conversions so if the hole was cut for the conversions the answer is no

Haha I'm not doing it myself, just helping a friend with parts of it so I didn't want to start a thread on it. Currently having computer issues, new MOTEC system on the way to fix everything.

What about getting a Bravo ITS Gimbal?? that might cover the hole and still allow you to use a bravo

bigblock55 06-18-2020 07:24 PM

It’s Definitely wider than the pic that is shown. Next question is anyone have A ball park cost to fill in the holes and recut for bravos?

The only problem i see with mounting the ITS transom assembly in that hole for the arneson is it is going to be deep

Based on what it cost me to go from a side-by-side bravo to a staggered Arneson, I'd estimate $125k :angry-smiley-044: Or around $1,500 for a single.

hullofjustis 06-24-2020 03:56 AM

Yes he sorta does. He sent them to the designer of the AS7’s to have gear housing fixed and he has had them for over a year and avoids his phone calls. He’ll call from another phone and he answers. Several months have gone by and he called him again and designer says hey so so switching them to another machine shop next week. And they should be finished shortly after.
that doesn’t make any sense PM me and I can fill you in

mig312 07-09-2020 09:15 PM

Will the arneson conversion fit over the hole cut out for the TRS ourdrive? From looking at picture i thought it would but i am new to this so want to make sure before i try it. And if so where can i find them? I am having trouble finding the arneson outdrives for sale. My nest question is would it be worth putting them on a twin engine chris craft stinger 312. Its a 1983 model 31.5 ft.

mig312 07-09-2020 09:17 PM

I forgot to mention my 330 HP 454 engines are bad and i am wanting to go back with 750 to 950 Hp with some outdrives that will not break. That is why i asked about arnesons. Thanks
