have you pulled the bearing off and have the race in your hand,,sure looks like it was put together wrong.still have to free up the cone clutch.
yes it looks like they put it togheter wrong.. yes, next thing I will do is to take the drive shaft and pinion gear off so I can take the gear housing off too. And then look whats happend to the cone clutch |
It sure looks like the race isn’t in there ( the cap is recessed and when the race is in it will be flush at the top)and after I expanded the picture it looks like the race is between the gear and the bearing, lucky you’re running a r/h prop .... how long has this drive been on ?

I don't know how long the previous owner had the drive on with this bearing like this. I have driven the boat like 3-4 times with this drive on. Like you said.. lucky that it is a r/h prop, if it was l/h I dont want to think about what could happend.. I hope the bearing and race is correct installed on the bottom I wonder how much parts I must replace with new after this..... |
If the bottom was that way it wouldn’t have lasted very long

Do you think it is time to replace the shift yoke and the shifter shaft..? It is a little notch on both the yoke and shaft. https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...1e6a22adf.jpeg https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...4088ba851.jpeg https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...29f9eb7a6.jpeg |
The score is not an issue, it happened when pulling it out because it was in a bind. The places where the shaft needs to be smooth for sealing is ok, and the rest is screwed together.
As for the rest, take it apart, clean and reassemble to see if it goes back like it should |

I have it apart now.
is this the right way to press it? https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...22bd8f69bc.png |
