Hello to everyone from Greece.
Can you see the
and tell me where the noise is coming from? I bought this sterndrive used and the seller has disappeared so I need your help.
Is this noise believed to be dangerous???
What you will read i did while the drive was in neutral.
first I was take it out from transom and open the upper unit to see for broken gears but is every gear OK. Also I emptied the gear oil but it was clean.
also I looked at the bearings but the don't make any noise in my hand . Also after 2000rpm in gauge the noise tends to disappear but I am not sure because the engine makes a lot of noise since I haven't made its cover yet.
What I noticed is that when I hold the shaft it snaps into the coupler and turn it left and right, a click is heard when one gear touches the other.
Please help me.

My son's Bravo 3 does the same thing I would have to search and find out again what I relearned and forgotten but I believe it has to do with high bump versus low bump shifters.
In his situation I believe it stopped rattling when put into gear. The noise may have been slightly different , or went away in forward or reverse, and if I recall it was a little quieter when in the water and under a small load.

there is a thread on this board somewhere that goes into more detail on the manuals etc. I had one mechanic suggest that all of the early Bravos had one or the other and it was designed primarily for the B3 to assist into into getting gear.
Update:
one of a few regarding this, no clear solution but some good info.
