Hello,
I recently bought a 1999 Firehawk 26' catamaran with a 588 big block Chevy and a Bravo 1 outdrive. My first trip out I discovered the external steering slave cylinder was leaking badly and needed to be rebuilt. With that job done I took it out for a second trip, just a short cruise, maybe an hour out and then back. On the ride back I opened it up a little more, maybe around 4000 RPM and suddenly the U-joint exploded. Of course it destroyed the bellows and I started taking on water. I got a tow to the beach so the boat didn't sink and called for assistance. I got the boat home and I've pulled off the outdrive, there is a moderate amount of damage, but not catastrophic. I'm looking for a replacement Gimble assembly, both the ring and the helmet are broken, as well as a replacement u-joint assembly. From what I can tell, the gimble assemblies are pretty much interchangeable, but I'm not sure about the yokes for the u-joint assemby, all parts of the u-joint assembly, input shaft, whatever you call it, are destroyed. Are all of these interchangeable for Bravo drives? How do I insure I get the correct yokes?
Thanks, John
