Default Wired remote install \ deinstall

I have the XMD1 that came with the boat and wired remote in my Baja. I am replacing it and was wondering how big of a pain it is to pull the new wires for the wired remote? Is it possible to splice the existing wires?

Thanks,

Abs

Running wires are cake. Splicing isn't going to happen. The inside wires are 24g, if that

if the remote is in the same spot, why not attach a piece of rope/string to the current wire. So when you pull it back, the rope will be there so you can use it to pull the new wire. Or if you can do it, attach the new cable to the old cable so when you pull the old cable out it pulls the new cable through? Also might want to add a string anyway for a future pull. I have gotten into the habit of always pulling an extra string when doing wires. That way if I ever decide to do something in the future, pulling a new cable will be cake as the pull string is already there for me.

I need to check it out, I haven't pulled the old remote yet. I think it is in a harness with other wires though. If not, that would be the way to go.

Thanks.

Not to hijack thread but I'm running into similar problem. I have a Sony head unit from 2000 with wired remote. I want to replace the head unit do I can play my iPod but don't want to lose the wired remote. Are there new models that will be compatable?

I'm pretty sure if you stay with a Sony Head unit it will mate right up to your wired remote. I know I've changed out head units before for newer ones by 7 or 8 years and things hooked up fine.
