I have two lowrance units on one boat and a Garmin on another.

The Garmin 740s is the latest technology I have installed at this time. Seeing the color (Google earth) view is pretty cool. It is a cool unit with a lot of features. Very easy to use. You will want to by the charts for your area. (50.00$)

The Lowrance in my opinion does everything one would need but is lacking additional features. No need to buy charts because pre loaded is great.

I recently purchased a raymarine e7 (I think e7). I have not installed it yet, but it's ability to sync with motors and stereo on top of the fact that everyone can Bluetooth in to the unit and see what's up on their cell phone is why I went this direction. And it was cheaper then the new Garmin 741xs. I doubt everyone in the boat will give a crap about what the engines are doing or how far we are from the desired location but I thought that was cool. We will see.

Good luck.

Shane, I have the Garmin 740 in my Skater connected to Mercury Vessel View with a NMEA 2000 gateway, dual engine model, and it will display all my view data. It can be set-up to show large MPH numbers. I also have it connected to Fusion radio with the wired remote that will show large MPH numbers on the head and remote. Pretty cool!. I have it facing the rear seats for their enjoyment. David

Taboma, I didn't know you could hook up the stereo. May I ask which Fusion head unit you have? I have already sold that boat and unit so I guess the next guy can use that option.

For what it is worth, I would have gone back with a 740s but I couldn't find a deal on one like I did 18 months ago. 18 months ago, I found one new for 699.00. Now, the 740s is hard to find and the 741xs is around 999.00.

joew, I have the Fusion IP700i and the wired remote connected to the NMEA backbone that will share data with the Garmin/Vessil View.

When I was racing I had a Garmin 162. You can change the screen to show actual speed and Top speed on the same screen in large numbers, or just actual speed by itself in huge numbers. It's also one of the lower priced models compared to other models with more bells & whistles.
