try Faria gauges as they most likely were the maker of this gauge ? IMO I think you might have a ground problem to the gauge or the internal ground problem of the gauge itself. for some reason I don't think Livorsi made these for Nordic back in 1997 as back in that timeframe Faria made a lot for boat manu's especially if it was not a monster gauge. I COULD BE WRONG - but I sure would check with Faria about fixing it and if they were the supplier.
Do you have the pole selector indicator on the back side of the RPM gauge ?? If so move its position and put it back to the 8 cylinder position. You will feel it very slightly click back into place and it needs to be SPOT on. This has fixed many of rpm gauges that would just sweep all over the place with the rpm readings as one minute it reads correctly then next its all over the place.
