Loudest 6.5" speakers...best bang for the buck! Opinions?

full range and 6.5, youre not going to get loud and clean anyway .. they need to be crossed over at a higher frequecncy to even come close to what many call loud .. a 6.5 speaker just isnt made to reproduce base so running them in full range isnt ever going to scream

I already have base, need mids/highs.

you said it bro you need mids n highs .not bass .. a 6.5 is a mid bass driver .. i cross mine at 150 to 200 hertz . get rid of all that bla muffled bullchit .. let the subs pound. my subs are crossed at 80 hertz .. and let me tell u . the stereo pounds and sounds incredible .. tight n clear .. thats what its all about folks .. any 6.5 with a great tweeter network will soundf good behind a quality amp i might add .

not all amps are the same .. one amp states 1000 dam amps while a class a 100 watt will destroy it hands down .. clean power will make a chitty speaker sound like a million bucks .. while a chitty amp cant make the best speakers sound good .. also factor in the source of the music . rca jacks ect .. theres a lot to making a great loud sounding system .or even a lower clean great sounding system , and speakers are a part of it. i would start with the best amps you can afford .. and build around that .. but were talking speakers so back to the best sounding 6.5 speakers for the money ..

Marine and take a beating. Had them installed as my lower in boats (with a pair of 485s up top) for 5 years.
BTW, I have recorded a 132 at the Shootout audio competition on just the highs. Granted comparing readings on highs is not as standardized as bass competition. Some kind of an osha meter is used but I don't know his settings.
On Ebay too for various prices. http://www.bulletlines.com/wakeboard...akers-s/36.htm

Yes the polk MM's are great speakers if done correctly (opinion) they require a huge amount of power and crossed over at about 150/170 hz, Then when complimented with a strong sub (JL) again big power there outstanding (opinon). I run 300 watts rms into each speaker @ 2 ohms using class ab amp's and it hits hard and clear for the money i could not ask for more.

1 of my clients just went from a Nautique SANTE210 with Wet Sounds XS650's in teh boat with Rev8's on the tower, to a new $180K Nautique G25 with Polk Audio in-boats and amps.
He's VERY disapointed..... it'll be getting a makeover soon.
And Rob Freeman, the XS650's sound real good from 110hZ and up.

the problem with crossing mids in the 150-200 range is that you leave a hole in the sound from 80-150 or 200hz. There are alot of drums that play in that range, thus you are missing parts of the music. You don't gaps that large. Subs crossed at 80 and mids at 100, you should be fine. Every stereo is a little different, but I typically cross the subs somewhere between 80 and 100 and the mids at about the same point.
I just did 3 pairs of JL's and a 2 ohm 10W3 on a XD1000/5. It sounds good and the owner is pleased with the sound. With the exhaust opened from the 496HO you can still hear the music cruising at 35-40mph.
For the tower, it depends on your budget and goal. If you are trying to get sound to a wakeboarder or skier 50-70 feet behind the boat, no coax is going to accomplish that. If you are wanting to have quality sound when anchored at a cover or sandbar, then you can't really go wrong with JL, Focal, or Wetsounds. JL are typically smoother sounding, Wetsounds typically have a little more tweeter, and Focal to me tends to have the best combination of the 2. Smooth sound that will absolutely scream and you won't realize how loud it is until you're screaming at your buddy.
My personal truck has Focal KRX2 components in the front doors, KRX2 coax in the rear, and a JL 10TW3, running on a JL XD1000/5. I really like that amp and it will absolutely scream when I want it to. Everybody that sits in my truck loves the sound quality from just the Focal, then when I start bringing in the subs it's just an entirely different level.
If budget wasn't a concern I would put Focals on that boat every day of the week. The coaxes are 2-3 times what the Wetsounds or JL offerings are though, so you have to decide if you want to spend $250-$350 on a pair of speakers, or $800 on a pair.
